Opening reception; Thursday, September 5th, 7-10pm

ADZ Gallery in Lisbon is thrilled to present the latest exhibition of Shigeo Otake, a renowned Japanese artist whose work has captivated audiences for decades. Born in 1955 in Kobe, Japan, Otake's artistic journey began at Kyoto City University of Arts, where he honed his skills in oil and mural painting under the guidance of Koji Yamazoe. Deeply influenced by the early Italian Renaissance, Otake spent two formative years traveling across Europe, an experience that has profoundly shaped his artistic vision.

Otake's work is a unique blend of traditional and contemporary influences, with a fascination for hybrid creatures and the mysterious world of Cordyceps fungi. His paintings often depict these creatures blending seamlessly into everyday life, evoking a sense of wonder and curiosity.

With a career spanning over four decades, this show marks Otake's first solo exhibition outside of Asia, offering a rare opportunity to experience his uniquely intricate works.
